Manheim Township Fire Department Chief Rick Kane was named the recipient of the Executive Safety Award 2011 by the International Association of Fire Chiefs. When he and his team visited the Children’s Learning Center at Landis Homes in the fall, he was presented with a banner of handprints by the children of the center to congratulate him for this national recognition.
Chief Kane, pictured lower left, is shown holding his two children, who are students at the learning center. The banner reads: “High Five to Chief Kane and Manheim Township Fire Department.” Teacher Kori Constein, standing right, assists the children in displaying the banner. The chief and his team also presented a fire safety lesson to the preschool class and gave tours of two fire trucks they brought along.
The Children’s Learning Center at Landis Homes opened in 2004 and received its National Association for the Education of Young Children NAEYC accreditation in 2011. The center serves about 50 children every weekday from 6 weeks through 5 years.
